I am starting to tear down my engine and it is a "C" code 289. I want to switch it to a "K" code engine can you help me with the diffrences between them? Thanks in advance.
Here's some more:
Different timing cover and water pump.
Large pulley on alternator.
Free flowing cast iron exhaust manifolds.
Heads with casting number 19, 20, 21 on them.
VIN marking on block flange.
There's also a different thrust washer on the crank...don't know what the implication of this is.
Solid lifters
And after going to all the trouble of finding these specialty parts...you could've bought a 5.0L, rebuilt it and had more horsepower better driveability and maintainability.
the only things that have anything to do with how it runs are:
* solid lifter cam ( old technology, do not copy this cam )
* hipo exhaust manifolds
* dual point distributor
* carburetor
these are all that is different that will effect power.Other things were for higher rpm operation, which in time has shown was not needed on a street engine.
Items you would need:
hipo main bearing caps
hipo, or Boss 302 rods
Front counterweight, hatchet gear
Dual point distributor
solid lifter cam
hipo exhaust manifolds
hipo heads and valve train
4V cast intake, same as A code 4v
large harmonic dampener
Basically... everything but the raw block, and crankshaft.
