A freind at work last night came up to me and asked if I was still into old Mustangs. I said shure.

He procedes to tell me a story about a guy he knows that bought some kind of special '68 fastback for his son a couple of years ago. His son drove it to school for a couple of days and then it wouldn't start one morning. My freind said it was a 420-something or a 290-something V8 engine, (oh realy?). His dad bought him a "new" thunderbird and the 'stang is sitting out back of their horse barn. He asked me if I would like him to check on it for me, he might want to sell it pretty cheap 'cause he can't get it to start.

Panting and slobbering, (figuratively) I said calmly "shure, that would be cool".

Of course this is probably a rusted out hulk that the chickens have been living in, with a blown up 6cyl, but who knows?

I just love this feeling, It's kinda like treasure hunting......... hehehe.

If your busy I could go check it out for you! Sound like you did your best to hide any excitement, hope
he didn't notice the drool starting to form in the corner of your mouth. Just tell the owner, "these 429's
were never any good".

Hal, Why is it you seem to find those out there? I mean, Bend is a pretty small town... lol
This isn't related to the one that you thought have found last year is it? Keep us informed, If you like I can have bro-in-law go look for me.. errrr, I mean you. ;)

Hi Jerry! .......hehe, for me huh?

No, that was supposed to be a BOSS'9 but the guy totaly flaked and back peddaled on me. Turned out to be a thrashed '69 coupe race car that did have a 429 engine in at one time (not a BOSS), but that was gone also. It wasn't even worth hauling home. (damm).

Like I said in the original post, it's probably a rusted out 6cyl hulk, but you never know......... I've found some pretty rare stuff this way. After reading about that Shelby find in M&F this month I know it can still happen............ *G*.

PS, I forgot to say in the original post that the guy at work did say it had a hood scoop on it.......... Now whether that's a shaker on a 428CJ or some rivited-on 'glass POS I don't know, I can only hope..............*G*.

Some recent responses I've gotten when inquiring about cars or trucks sitting out in the weeds just going to waste and rotting away.

o It was running great when I parked it
(ok so why'd ya park it then?)

o I'm going to start restoring it just as soon as I get some time
(yeah when hell freezes over or I win the lottery, whichever comes first)

o This is a very rare car, only 50 of em were made like it
(I'm delirious from seeing the $$ signs because you went to the trouble to actually ask me about this crap car)

o It only needs a little paint and some clean up and it will be good as new
(just ignore the weeds you see growing up where the floor pans used to be)

o Its a good project car
(Ok, so what if theres no interior, no fenders, no motor, no trans, no rear end, no glass and ITS A FREAKIN HULK)

o No its not for sale
(yes I'm going to keep it until it turns into a lawn ornament(rusted lump in the ground))
or
(where will my dogs sleep if I sell it?)
or
(you didn't offer me a totally ludicrously inflated enough price for this POS)

Seems like it ought to be worth more than that
(Ok, so what if I have no clue how much its worth and what it takes to rebuild one of these things after I let it sit under the pine trees for 15 years and rot)

I won't take less than _____ for it
(Ok, so what if that includes my purchase price and ever penny I ever spent on it and a nice 25 percent profit too regardless of the fact that it will take around ten grand just to get it running again)

That's sooooo real. I've heard every one of these and several more.

How about "Metallic CLICK....(dead silence)....... get the f**k offen my porch sonney boy. NO I don't want to sell that car, if I ever get my license back I'm gonna' drive it. You damm people stop and ask about it all the time and I'm getting tired of tresspassers. (well sir I did come to your front door and knock first, could you please point that somewhere else? what's that smell?). I was just thinking you might want to trade for my pick-up here....... (for that '68 Dan Gurney special Cougar with the 428SCJ/4spd and shaker). Well, actualy sonny boy I've been been looking for a PU to haul my pigs in to town and I can only get two sows in the back of that car. (ohhhhh so the interior is nice huh?) I'll tell ya' what, I'll trade that PU of yours and you give me $10,000 and pave my driveway and come over here every week for a year and shovel hog [censored] out of the barn and at the end of a year I'll let you take it....... I'm going to drive it until then though....... (I thought you said you didn't have a license?) WHO THE HELL are you to tell me I don't know how to drive? CLICK.......... (no, no, I didn't say that!!) Git the hell offen my porch sonny boy before I put a hole right through ya' ( OK, OK, I'm leaving right now. Could you point that somewhere else) And don't come back!!! (you can bet on that............*G*).

Tenessee maybe, LOL. I wrote that as a sort of a joke but the dogs sleeping in the car is true, LOL.

Down where I am in Texas they don't pull out the shotguns anymore. They just turn the pitbulls loose. I've had one try and come through the window of my Bronco on me. Now when I pull up in a strange yard I just turn the motor off, honk the horn and wait a while to see what kind of creature comes rolling out from behind the house.

I have seen so many vehicles sitting out in the weeds or under the trees rotting away that its just pathetic. Many of the ones I come across now are so far gone that they are practically worthless. These people won't turn loose of them for anything. I wish I understood the psychology behind this affliction of letting a perfectly good mechanical device just sit and rot away.
