I just bought this and I wanted to know if the decal placement is right. it looks like it could also fit inside the recessed area.

Any help is appreciated.

PS it is a repro but the quality isn't too bad.

I believe it's right. Restoration guide show it that way.

Yes, that is the correct placement. But, correct me if I am wrong... I was under the impression that only GT Mustangs with the "High Performance" 289 engine had the chrome air cleaner.

Not just GT cars, but also any car that had the HiPo motor.

Follow on question: where is the proper location for the Autolite sparkplug sticker. I an under the impression that it too goes atop the air cleaner assembly.

That's a good question. The Autolite spark plu sticker (PO says it is original) on my 1968 Mustang is on the driver-side shock tower, about half the way down.

The chrome air cleaner came standard on the 289 Hipo (gold base for 65, blue base for 66) with the "289 High Performance" decal, but you could buy it with the Cobra Engine Dress-up Kit as a dealer installed accessory item too.

The one I just bought came with a HiPo sticker but I bought the 289 decal because I don't have a HiPo. I'll probably stick the HiPo sticker on my tool chest or something.

I know it isn't correct, but I like the open element and I always like to think that a little bit of chrome looks pretty good under the hood..
