I have the oval Cobra air clear on top of an Autolite 4100.. Does K&N or others make a high performance element for this unit?

I asked K & N the same question a couple weeks ago. Here's the response:

"Dear customer,
That is our E-1960. We also have it available in a taller version (3" tall) as part# E-1963. For a K&N dealer near you call 888-425-0325."

From what I've found - it's about $65. Surprisingly - My Ford dealer had the Motorcraft FA48 in stock for $17.

Thanks... I don't know if the HP gain I would get from the K&N would be worth it...anyone have any experience with the K&N on the oval clearner? I will also have to see in the 3 incher would fit under the hood..

I don't have an oval air cleaner, mines a 14" round one. I fitted a K&N and was VERY impressed with the power gain. I paid about $50 for it from NPD and I'll say it was worth it.

It'll be good for 100,000 miles, when it get's dirty, you simply wash it and re-oil. Better than paying $20 every 10,000 miles on a cheap one only to trash it and buy another...

Thanks

I've got a K&N on my driver (94GT) and am happy with it.

Frankly, on the 65, It would take 12 years to pay for the K&N -a $17 paper filter every 3 years vs. a $65 filter once...

Horsepower - I'm sure there's some gain, but the oval filter has a LOT of surface area, so I'm not sure you'll see as big of a benefit from a freer flowing media, like you probably would on a "normal" size filter...
