Wife & I Sent my son off to basic training today to the Air Force. Way over in Texas. Long ways from South Carolina! He called a few minutes ago to say he was there. Sad day, but we all think he'll like it.

Second best thing I ever did was join the service, learned a
trade and got my act together. First best thing I ever did was
marry my wife 31 years ago :)

Bittersweet. My son is in my heart and soul. He is going off to another state to school soon. I know the feelings.

When I went off to bootcamp, I never realized what my mom was feeling. Now, I let her know twice a week that I appreciate it.

You are only a doofus until the next round...

You are going to hear some wondeful stories the next few weeks. I work on an Air Force base with young GIs everyday. They are a great bunch of folks doing a super job. Your boy will be in good company and make new friends which he will keep for a lifetime. I am sure he will make you proud. Aim High

Everybody was so nice today at the base. And I don't think it was an act for the parents. They even took the families onto the type of plane they would be flying.

It takes a person with a lot of character to make that choice. Best of luck to your son and to your family...

You shouldn't have to worry about him in the Air Force basic training. He won't have to put up with all the junk the Army and Marines go through - plus he will probably learn some good technical skills.

Cruzer,
I've been in for 10 years now and it's been the one of the best things I have ever done.
Met some great people. Seen awesome places in the world.
And met my beautiful wife.
I wish your son the best.
What career field will he be going into?

Know how you feel. Saw both older boys go off to the Navy some years ago. Myself, did the Air Force thing in '73 (retired in '93), wife did it in '74.

I didn't retire, but did do my time in the AF. Best Decision I ever made in my life. Worst one was marrying my first wife, but that's a differant story.

Drew,
Nice '66! Is that color Clearwater Aqua Metallic? That's what my '67 is; code W. I didn't know they used that color in '66. Can't find any reference to it...must be using the wrong reference. *G* Again, nice car!

Yep, it's Clearwater Aqua Metallic.
Your absolutely right it's 67 color. Ford used it on late '66's. (Learned that from a VMFer)
My color code is W7

And thank you for the compliment!
She's actually fading a bit on roof, hood and trunk.
Love to see a picture of ours.

I will be heading to the Army this summer! The sad thing is my mustang will be in the hands of my parents until i get out of basic! :(
I've been in for 21 months. I'm still in training. I'm learning Chinese at DLI in beautiful Monterey, California. My father was in the AF for 28 years. His last day on duty was my first day at basic. I've grown up all my life in the AF. I didn't know what a civilian was until I was 13. The life is rewarding. He'll have a blast in basic.

Charlotte's only 1 hour from Lancaster. After basic he'll go to Florida for sea survival, then Washington State for land survival, 10 months total. Then back to Charlotte. He'll then be in reserves there.

You'll notice a big change in him when you see him again. Basic Military Training is a good program and he'll have learned good discipline and be a better "man" for it. Been in the Air Force for 19 years now and it's been a great move. Be happy he chose the Air Force as "No One Comes Close."
