Hello,

I notice that every time it rains and I go out to use my car (daily driver) after a few minutes literally the engine will try to stall out. The idle drops really low. I have to put it in neutral at stop lights and keep my foot on the gas slightly just to keep it running. After the engine gets to almost full temp and it runs for a while it seems to stop. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this just one of those things that I have to deal with? Thank you.

Do you have a new distributer cap? or wires. some times moisture can do some wierd things. But when it happens only on rainy days. I would check that first. The reason it run's better when warmed up is because everything dries out then

Does the car sit out overnight in the rain?

Do you have the same problem when you drive the car, say to work, let it sit all day then drive home? How about a trip to the store or something like that where it's only sitting for an hour maybe?

Is the induction system still stock (carb, air cleaner, etc)?

sounds like a cracked distributor or old plug wires that are letting in moisture until sufficient heat dries them out. Check the wires for cracks & their connections carefully.

A neat way to check for bad Wire's is park your car where it is dark, at night no light's.
Pop the hood, start the car up and have someone rev the engine. If you have bad wires
you will see blue sparks jumping around. I just did this a month ago with my van.

My 289 has a step up heads, cam, intake (holley street dominator), it has a rise like a performer intake. I have MSD ignition and accel 300+ 8.8 mm wires. The ignition and wires were put on about 5 years ago but I have only put on about 11,000 miles since I owned the car in the summer of 95. I put the MSD on 96 (I think). It seems to only happen after it has been sitting for a while. Like all night or all day in the rain. I also cover my car. WIll that have anything to do with it?
