Ok, finally got everything wired up. Battery is charging at 14+ , and the amp meter is pegging when at RPM. I don't believe this is correct, from what I have read the amp meter hardly every moves on a 1967. It also started to smoke at the starter relay when trying to start. I did not change Volt regulator when I put the new Alt in. Could this be it? Next question my brake light stays on all the time. Thanks :wall:

Recheck your battery and starter connections .
The amp gauge could move alot if the battery is dead , if it is not something is loading it .
The brake switch likely got bopped around when you plugged the wires up and it's stuck on .

brake light could be on because pressure differential valve is not centered. don't see how this could cause excessive current as described - it just warns you that front or back brakes are inoperative. did you do any rewiring around solenoid and does it release starter when ign key goes to run or off. solenoid may be sticking - give it a rap with soft hammer.
