Got a 65 instrument cluster, thinking about installing autometer phantom gauges where the current fuel and temp gauges reside (on either side of the speedo). I plan on recessing the gauges so that they look more like they were built into the cluster from the factory, and still utilize the chrome bezels from the current cluster. I think they will go nicely with my shelby gauge pod with autometer tach and oil pressure gauges. Anyone have any thoughts on this, and especially any pics... Please, no pics of the 6 gauge cluster from JME, or whoever it is, I am interested in retaining the stock 64 1/2-65 cluster. thanks!

I enlarged the gauge holes and used autometer 2 1/8" guages and a 3 5/8" (if memory serves) speedo. The speedo drops right in. On the otherhand, you need to enlarge the bezel holes for the other 4 gauges, and that part can be a PITA. I used a benchpress drill and a 2" forstner bit. It'll be a tight fit, but the gauges will go in (use a lil silicone lube). The forstner will take out (should take out) the inner black painted portion of the chrome gauge bezels and should leave the chrome ring undamaged. I know of two other people that have used the same method as me. PM me if you need more help.

I totally eliminated the dash pad and went more with a "street rod" look with aftermarket gauges....
