The 1989-93 AOD's are widely considered the best of the bunch. One from a Mustang will be a bit easier to retrofit than one from a truck at least. Keep in mind the AOD you are looking at is now 21 years old. If it has been rebuilt recently that would be nice. If not then you might plan on rebuilding it.
Swapping in an AOD is a bit involved but a LOT of people have done it. There are many archived posts about how to get it done and a few difficulties folks have run into.

I put an AOD in my 71 behind a 351w and love it.

What you need:

Correct shim plate between engine and trans.
Aftermerket trans crossmember.
Aftermarket linkage to make your existing shifter work.
Aftermarket kickdown linkage
Driveshaft shortened
wire pigtail that plugs into the AOD's neutral start/backup switch
and you will need to re route trans cooler lines.

There are several old threads here and on the web about it. It really wasn't to hard but I did have a really good mechanic looking over my shoulder and don't think I would have tried it otherwise.

On the plus side with 4.11 gears I can run 70mph at about 2300 rpm
