I am mig welding with my 220 Lincoln w/ argon/co2 on my 65 mustang frame rails and notice weird smell and not the best to weld I assume now they are galvanized but I originally thought only the lower rocker panels were galvanized just want to confirm the frame rails are also, and are any other panels on the car galvanized cowl area? Any tips for welding I am wire wheeling I think now I should also sand a bit to get galvanized coating off if that’s possible I assume it’s just on the surface I am using respirator with pink pancake filters and the car is outside and I am using a fan commen sense told me that smell is no good.

like i said in your PM i dont think anything is galvanized. welding all that extra stitch welds is good, will help stiffen chassis a little

I believe the inner rocker panel on my 1965 fastback is galvanized. I replaced the frame rails and didn't notice them being galvanized.
