Well, got signed up for my first autocross for this season. May 20th at Rialto Airport (long haul). Porsche Club is putting it on, but anyone is allowed. Best 40 bones ever spent! hehehe I had dropped a line to the chairman of the event, and had sent a picture (I had ran at their event at the San Bernadino Sherriff's facility two years ago, and became a crowd favorite). Needless to say, he is looking forward to my return his exact words were - Bitchin' car!!!

I also am planning on heading up to the Shafter airport on Memorial Day weekend to run up there at the airport. That one is a charity event, and they close one of the runways. Last year's event was 1.4 miles long with a big straightaway, got it up too 100 MPH!!!! *G*

Too much to do, not enough time to race everywhere....

I can't wait....

Yes, I do. It is an absolute rip! I have been autocrossing cars since the late 70's (while I was in high school - hehehe). Best way to 'use' my Mustang.

They love it! My wife had been watching me at an event two years ago. The start/finish line was obscured by brush from where she was standing. Also, open exhaust was OK there (that is why I installed the Y pipes after my headers - hehehe). Anyhow, I had started one of my laps, and my wife overheard one of the bystanders say to his buddy "Hey, here comes that Mustang again, check it out". Also, during my last run at that event, there was a tight hairpin turn at the end of a long straightaway (hehehe). I entered it a little hot (I remember turning my front brake rotors blue at that event) and spun around. In stead of stopping, backing up and continuing, I just planted my foot in the throttle and did a donut right there, and emerged from the cloud of smoke!

This is why I do these things...

since I drive this car on the street, I am not too crazy about driving in a roadrace with it. However, I am always available to have my arm twisted! Seriously, roll bars, 6 point harnesses and other safety gear is required (and I would probably go further than 'required' - what a shock) to take a car on a multi-driver course. That is the nice thing about autocrossing, you're basically out there by yourself, without having to deal with other drivers and vehicles! with that being said, I have been in other events that invovled multiple drivers, Demolition Derbies! I will have to post a picture next week of one of my previous cars (1959 Chrysler Imperial, 1965 Chrysler New yorker, 1965 Dodge Polara, 1969 Oldmobile 98, 1967 Ford Thunderbird).
