What spline count does their paperwork say it’s supposed to be?

found the invoice and it said it was supposed to be a 28 spline.

Oh man. Gotta know your splines! And don’t bore out any mounting holes. It is entirely common to have to massage the third member onto your housing (rubber mallet). If you didn’t understand spline counts, then I’d be concerned about how much you took out of the mounting holes. That may open up a whole new can of worms with 3rd member alignment.
Not to be negative Nancy, but this is pretty important stuff.

I know my spline count. I ordered the correct one, they sent the wrong one.

There was no factory 31 spline axle for the 8" rear end. Maybe there is from the aftermarket industry but I doubt it. If you really need 31 spline axles you really.need a 9".

Yukon sells 31 spline Trac-Locs for 8 inch. I guess it might mainly be made for the offroad world, which probably add an different type of abuse to the axles than normal street or race cars.
