I always thought that if your car was running and you pull off the battery connections if its charging it will stay running. I have a 65 200 6cyl that is having this problem with not staying running. I changed battery and alt. does anyone have an Idea where to check. I have checked all the usual things and still haven't found problem. any help would be appreciated.

thanks Rick

Please do not use this method to test the alternator. For one, by pulling the negative cable off the battery, there usually is a spark. If the battery is charging, hydrogen gas is produced. Remember the Hindenburg blimp? Secondly, you can easily blow the diodes of the alternator by removing the battery from the circuit.

Promise me you won't do this....OK?

Take your car to Autozone or CrapBoys and have the charging system tested for free, usually installed in the car. If that doesn't isolate the problem, then a competent auto electrical shop can usually determine the problem for $40-$50.
