I have read conflicting information as to whether the truck (390) manual transmission bell housing will work on a Mustang. Some say yes some say no. The comments seem related to the tranny shaft length that may not be correct with that combo. What is correct? I am in the process of converting my 67FB to a 428 and will be using the larger clutch system. The tranny is according to the buc tag a 69 428 tranny in the car as well. Obviously I have lots of access to truck bell housings the other option will be much more difficult to find. thanx doug

Don't know much about FE bellhousings, but in SBF car world it is the extension housing and not the bellhousing that differs between the cars. So it could be that bellhousing would be the same also in the FE world.

Just measure the bell housong depth and compare if you have one to measure. I can't see them being different but that doesn't mean much.

Truck bell will not work. Truck bell housing is deeper than bellhousing for a car.
You won't have enough insertion into pilot bearing.
Car bell is 6 3/8. Truck bell is 6 3/4.
Hope this info helps.
