Have the distribution block off of my 65FB (drum brakes). The PO painted it black when spraying the engine compartment and I need to know how to remove the paint. Can I just sand it off with sandpaper? Can I soak the block in slovent (gasoline) to clean it out or will that be dangerous when I reattach it and fill the lines with brake fluid? Also, how do I elevate my status from newbie? TIA

I would wire wheel it or be very careful with paint remover. My PO did the same thing (primed it on body). I just wire wheeled it clean.
Easy way to get off Newbie status..... Just post more.

You will need about 94 more posts to clear the newbie status.
RE: solvent - we use gas in out cars because under the right conditions, it is an excellent explosive. There are a lot of down sides to using gas as a solvent, explosions being one.
I would use some paint stripper to clean the paint off the distribution block.

I would use paint thinner or acetone. Both will easily remove the paint. Acetone will also be good to flush it out.

Carb Cleaner, then brake cleaner to remove the residue. First try just brake cleaner (like Berryman's) to see if the paint comes off.
