Don't know if anyone has posted this yet. I saw in a catalog a tool black kit. They claim:

* A fast, inexpensive, alternative to black oxide
* Ideal for prototypes, repair parts and gerneal machine work

Sale price $44.99 list price $101.33 or 1-800-use-econo #AV-825-8150

I use that stuff at work to do touch ups on parts that are black oxided. It works no were even close to as good as black oxide. You can basically rub it off if you try. When you black oxide something it goes through a chemical dipping process like you do when you chrome something. I wouldn't use the fake stuff for amymore then touching up very small areas.
