Does anyone know the correct finish for the Autolite brass temperature sender and how to achieve it? I've got a couple of good used Autolite senders and they need cleaned up. Tried to buff one but the finish looks "too good" if you know what I mean. And also on the sender, the insulating material at the top, is it supposed to be a nice clean white or is it sorta off-white. Thanks for any and all help!! :)

The finish is brass and is not polished (or buffed). I find media blasting with glass or walnut shells removes the dirt and tarnish without giving the unit a shiney look.

On NOS sending units that I have had, the "insulator" was white.

Tell you what I do to clean old but original temp senders: I brush them with a paint brush and some toothpaste. They will become clean. To remove the shine I put them a week or so on the outside window sill of my shop. This will remove the 'golden shine' and turn 'em into a natural brass look.
