So, in discussing the fact I still need to spend some money on the exhaust system (flowmasters and such) after I get the CAR RUNNING...SWMBO springs on me that she's been entering my Mustang expenses in Quicken as a seperate catagory FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS.

I'm so busted.

$13,425

And that doesn't include the $5,000 I paid for it.

Will someone please email me a virus! I MUST DESTROY THIS DADBLASTED COMPUTER!

Quickenly!!

The solution is, you must take over the accounting. I do ALL of the accounting and investing in my family. I also keep a little cash fund set aside for Mustang work. My problem is I have a very hard time letting big chunks of money go into the car with three kids.

Just point out that it's only costing around $300 a month for your recreational outlet, which just happens to be one you are able to share with the whole family and, BTW, keeps you home instead of out with the boys doing who knows what! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Oh and BTW, all (or most) of that money is still sitting in the driveway instead of gone forever!

I put all my expenses on my web site, but SWMBO's too dumb to look there. Believe me, the expenses do slow down once the car is restored. I've only spent about $500 over the past year, way less than the other cars.

Oh that breaks my heart. I mean, I'm sure you work hard every day, go to your job, pay the bills, take care of everything... and you spend a couple thousand dollars a year on something that you love... what's wrong with that?

Why do women have to be so hard on us.

I'm glad I don't have that problem... My significant other thoroughly enjoys spending all kinds of money on resto-modding our 1968 =)

that's about $380/month over the past 4 years... well, not much more than an ordinary car payment! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

everyone has a hobby, just tell your wife that you could be interested in Ferrari's instead of Mustangs.

When my wife found out how much i spend on my Mustang, she bought a diamond ring of comparable value. She tells me
to keep upgrading, She's got more fingers...

I disguise important file like these by renaming them something so no one will bother with them.

This can work towards your advantage though. Since you have already spent thousands and thousands what is an extra few hundred dollars for exhaust. This line of reasoning should be good for another couple thou easy. Don't worry she wont mind after a while.

Hey I really do want a Ferrari. Thats why I drive an Intermeccanica Italia (aka Griffith 600, Omega, and Torino). Hand made Italian body with Ford powertrains. Some were even asembeled by Holman & Moody. They are like Italian Cobras. Sorry I don't have any web pictures. Check out www.intermeccanica.org . I might just drive it to Des Moines in August. Did CA last summer and little league this afternoon.

I've got a computer here on the bench, that's just eat up with the lovebug virus. Want me to send you an email from that system? Sorry about your bust. I keep up with my expenses in quickbooks, but don't run a total, and SWMBO doesn't know the Category is there.

Car looks like its worth just about what you got invested in it. Subtract off the value of the car verses what you've spent on it then divide that number by the number of months you've been spending to find out how much money you have been "blowing" verses "investing".

If her car is on a note show her the current value of the car and how much it has cost, wonder which one will look like a better deal.
