I have what is supposed to be a C4 tranny that I picked up recently. It came out of a 1980 pinto/bobcat. I am not certain now if it is actually a c4 or a c3, but I do not know how to id one from the other. I have surfed the net looking for some way of telling the difference but no such luck. Can anyone out there in VMF land explain what to look for to tell the difference? IF this is of any help the tag has the following on it: PEJ Z H29E EOEP BA 5. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. That made too much sense which is why I probably didn't think to do that to begin with. Based on your idea, I called a tranny shop and they told me that a c3 has the modulator on the side, while a c4 has it in the back, which is where mine is. As for the 4 cylinder, ford did put c4s on them, but they also put the c3's, hence my confusion.
