My C-4 loves second gear so much it doesn't want to shift out of it unless you really wind it, and then it will dump into third.
1.) Should I attempt a rebuild myself, never having done it before...
2.) Cost to have someone do it for me (the right way).
3.) what should I expect to replace?
4.) Any other suggestions (keeping car original a must)

Thanks to all GURUs for any lent Grey matter on this issue...

It may be something simple, check your kickdown first... It could also be a dirty filter or lack of fluid, but I've had my kickdown stuck before and thats happened, if not, time for a rebuild!

make sure you have good vacuum to the modulator, and that the hose is not kinked or leaking. It makes a very gnarly bend just before the modulator, and if it kinks (or leaks) will act pretty much like you describe.

I agree with John, replace the modulator valve & hose. Those things will make a transmission act like it's time for a rebuild. Might as well change the fluid & screen while you're under there.
