Does anybody know what the small rubber disc about the size of a baby aspirin is for in the valve body of a '68 C4. I am putting a C4 back together and I have these balls and disc in the rebuld kit that go into the valve body. The problem is, I don't recall seeing this disc in the valve body when I broke it down. What will happen if I leave it out?

IIRC that was one of the items to be deleted when you install a shift kit. Do you think your car might have had a shift kit installed by a PO? Mine did when I opened it up to install a B&M shift kit I'd bought for it. I installed the new kit anyway and now I think the old one was more aggressive. Oh well.

No, the tranny has never had a shift kit installed. It's possible that the "button" fell to the floor when the valve body was broken down and it was swept out with the oil dry, but I never saw the thing. I suppose the correct thing to do is to install the new button. Thanks for the input.
