I asked it on the old format forum, but I figured I better put it here too. I want to put a slightly better breathing cam in, but was hoping to avoid changing to better springs, rolloer rockers, etc. Basically, I would like to slide in a new cam, and call it a day. Can this be done without floating valves and/or breaking the stock valve springs?

Most cam companys will recommend getting the right springs
for whatever cam you buy. New lifters are a given. It's
like everything else we do, multiply the time and money x 2
and you will probably be there. Is the extra cost worth the
peace of mind? Almost always it is. Just my .02 worth.

How do you intend to use the car? Daily driver? Weekend toy? If you are going to use this as a daily driver and you're just looking for a little more punch I would recommend staying with a cam that has no more than 208 degrees duration @.050" lift and .450" lift if you want to use the stock springs and rockers. The lift is the critical measurement because when you add more lift you have to make sure that you have adequate clearance between the coils on the springs .030"-.040" minimum between each coil at maximum lift should be sufficient. But you should really consider changing the springs anyway because should anything go wrong with the cam most cam company's won't give you the time of day if you didn't use their springs with their cam.Take it from someone who found out the hard way. I hope this helps you out.
