My car had a 1/8" thk dark brown (now blackened) spacer under the carb. It looks somewhat fiberous but it is rather stiff.
Is this a original part or some aftermarket piece.

Aftermarket. Is your carb a Holley or Autolite? If it is a Ford, it should be a 1" Aluminium 4 hole spacer w/a PCV tube in the rear.

Holley, Let me add everything I forgot now. My car is a 65 HiPo and has a cobra intake on it so my PCV tube is running into the intake runner.

The one inch spacer won't allow you to close your hood with that setup.

I have the Cobra intake but use a Boss 302 3/8 spacer with the PCV elbow on it.
