Here in Alabama we just can't show off like that . Get e'm all lined up then,
Come back in a day or so and the dirt daubers will have every cavity in those thing full of mud .
And if you think they will be safe stored in a cabinet ,better make sure all the openings in the cabinet are sealed. Because those things ain't afraid of the dark .
If you're using a mechanical fuel pump, you'll want the fuel filter between the pump and carb because the mechanical fuel pumps push fuel better than they suck fuel. Lots of recommendations for the 65 style mechanical fuel pump as it has the canister style fuel filter on it that works a lot better than an inline filter and two less connections to worry about on the fuel line.
I finally managed to get the car running OK. The intake was installed with the intake manifold gasket in reverse. This was causing massive vacuum leak and oil suction into the intake. Installing new gaskets fixed a lot of the issues and the 850 Holley that the car came with worked well. Decided to try the used 650 XP that I bought, it needs some tuning using a AFR gauge.
When I switched to the XP carb the accelerator pedal travel wouldn't open the throttle plates 100%. I had to moved the link to the lower hole on the carb side to get the throttle to open about 90%. This has made the pedal harder to push and a car behavior a little twitchy. Am I missing something? Do I need to change the pedal?
Thanks!
In your first pic, the throttle rod is attached to the larger hole at the top of the carburetor linkage, which is where you want it. This second pic has it in a lower hole which doesn't allow the carburetor linkage to fully operate. Move your throttle rod back to the bigger hole with the hole adapter to make it fit, but attach the rod to the outside of the linkage and not the inside like before.
When the bellcrank is not being operated by the accelerator pedal, it is almost touching the rear of the engine block/intake manifold on my car. Is yours the same way?
I've got one similar to this with that funky tube sticking out the side. I believe it came off of a Ford 390, perhaps a truck.
