anyone know what size and type of fitting Is used on this pump? the instruction just say "stop style", I've bought a 1/4 mnpt x 3/8 nipple but it won't fit, it looks to be the right size but not right thread.

It's an inverted flare fitting- just like brake lines. 5/16" tubing if it's '65-'67, 3/8" tubing if it's '68 and up.

Yup. See the chart in post #5. Those are the only size possibilities for tube nuts.
The one for the OP's Carter pump uses a 5/16 line, which has a 1/2-20 tube nut on it.

I bought a piece of 5/16" OD cupro-nickel ("Nicopp") brake line tubing with the inverted flre nut already installed. Bends easy, and looks very nice. Cut off the excess and use a short length of 5/16" fuel hose to connect to filter and then carb.
