Hi,

I want to change the fuel filter on my '65 200 I6. I can't seem to get the top cover off of the fuel pump without doing some damage. Is there a special tool for this? If so, where can I get one?

Are there any tricks to getting it off other than using the proper tool?

Thanks,
John Thomas

It is surprising that it is on that tight,I guess you could use an oil filter wrench or a pair of channel locks with duct tape wrapped around the jaws.
The only damage you could do would be to bend the canister and if you do, write me back I have an old one I could send you out for free.
Good Luck.
P.S.
Don't try heating it.....KA-BOOM!!!!!!!

I tried an oil filter wrench, mine is too large. I also tried channel locks with a rag under the jaws, but it wouldn't budge. Can anyone else help me out?

The pump is only about a year old, so I can't see it being rusted on or anything like that. Especially since I live in Arizona.

Thanks,
John Thomas

glad you popped it off. mine always seems to have to be really tight or it spits gas all over the engine compartment. i use those rubber jar lid grippers and a few carefully selected expletives.
