I am going to change the oil in the rearend of my 66/289/peg leg tomorrow a.m. I have something to suck out the old stuff and want to know if there is something I can pour in there to help dilute the junk I know is sitting on the bottom after 37 yrs? Like kerosene and then suck that out and put the new 90 wt in there? thanks..gary.

Call me shadetree.....once the pumpkin is out, I just rake the remaining gear lube out of the housing with my hand.

Problem is that with an 8" rearend doesn't have a cover like other diffs while on the car just a fill hole/plug. I've been wondering the same thing as I really need to change my fluid.

I took mine to a Penzoil. For $20 and 10 minutes they stuck a vacumn like thing in there and sucked out all the old fluid/crud...

If you plan on doing it without taking it apart then I'd say no because you'll never get it all back out and will contaminate the new fluid.

Just get out as much as you can and replace it with fresh fluid and call it good until you're ready to pull it out for a rebuild...
