I always thought '65 Hi-Po engines came with aluminum six-blade pumps with casting number C5OE-A and part #C5OZ-A. But I was recently told they came with pumps cast C5AE. What's correct for my engine (build date 12/14/64)? Thank you to all in advance.

The type you use is an aluminum open impeller type. Meaning it does not have a steel plate covering the impeller. The HiPo has a deeper recess in the timing cover to accommodate this type of water pump. See the following web site and click on 1680, 1681 to compare pumps. Note 1680 is flat with the impeller exposed on the back side. 1681 is recessed in the front (impeller in the water pump case) with steel back plate.

Didn't most '65' 289s have the aluminum pump changing over late in the year to cast?
Mine is an A code, April 25 build date and it uses the aluminum pump.
