Any ideas on what type of paint to use to refinish a console on a 66 Mustang convertible? Vinyl or lacquer?
Thanks

Hi there,

I'd use lacquer. I would think you would use vinyl only if there was some flexing to the unit but you're console is all metal and stiff plastic, I believe. I have to paint mine soon and it's a '68. Because there is vinyl trim I will probably need to on the non metal pieces. Mark

I used black vinyl die on mine rather than paint, on the console itself. For the trim pieces, I worked them down with steelwool, taped them off, used a thin coat of self etching primer (eastwood), a thin spray of underhood black over that, and a thin spray of "Interior Black" from Mustangs Etc. over that. If you put on anything thick, like a standard sandable primer, you'll lose your camera case texture.

Oh yeah...here's how it turned out.
