This is off topic.

My friend swears that he has seen a V8 engine converted into an air compressor. He says the engine runs off of say 6 cyclenders, and the other 2 cyclenders are the air pump.

Anyone heard of this or have plans or know where I can get plans?? he has a 400 that he is just dying to convert into a big 'ol air compressor.

Thanks guys.

He is an Oldsmobile guy, and I told him tht the Mustangers would come to his rescue :)

At one time they sold a tire inflator kit that you would use by removing a spark plug. You would then screw in this adapter to which an air hose was attached, and bingo now your car is an air compressor. There was some sort of valving on the adaptor to separate the fuel from the compressed air. They never worked well and some fuel always got into your tires

There was an 1100cid Ford Sherman Tank engine from eBay floating around here yesterday. You might think about picking that up for about $5K and getting some BIG air...

I actually saw one about 10 years ago.. The guy took a cleveland, it ran on 4 cylinders and had piped the other 4 to a tank with a check valve.. Strange as it may sound, I did see one too, although I never saw or heard it run.. He used to blow out sprinkler systems with it....

Plans and parts used to be available--may still be--for converting a VW engine to a 2-cyl engine/2-cyl compressor.
