I need to know if I need to replace the header of my convertible top frame. It sat in the elements for 15 yrs and the pot metal is rough but after sanding it down is ok. Is this something that has to be perfect? I know I will have to drill new holes for the screws for the top. Isn't the only purpose is to hold the convertible top and will be covered up anyways?

When I got my '65 convertible, the top frame had seen better days, I had a bodyshop sand/fill whatever was necessary, then drilled new holes like you are talking about. It looks good to me and got covered up anyway.

Good Luck.
