I want to replace the single exhaust muffler on my 65 "C" code fastback with a correct original. This is the long style muffler that sits sideways between the gas tank and differential. I show my car in the concours class there I need to retain complete originality and do not want an aftermarket muffler. The one on my car now shows a part number of 83-39782-7. Can anyone identify this muffler? Is this even an original? I don't see any Ford logo markings and frankly, don't know if an original muffler will have a Ford marking. Any suggestions on where to get a correct replacement? Thanks.

Ford mufflers are typically marked 'Ford' or 'FoMoCo' and have a part number/date stamp on them.

I have seen NOS for sale on ebay before, just be on the lookout. Otherwise, you can readily buy plain mufflers with no marks on them which are accepted in MCA concours judging.
