Thought I would start a thread on this since they are showing up more and more on BaT. This one appears to be really well done. They left the interior alone.

Some pretty nice coyote swapped cars on eBay right now.

I love the look of the Coyote powered Cougar Eliminator. That said, the dealer advertisement has a number of inconsistencies.
The ad states
"1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator
1967 1968 1969 GT XR-7 Roush Supercharged Coyote Fastback GT Shelby Boss 6 Speed"
It is not a fastback nor a GT or a Shelby. Looks like the salesman included every buzz word he could think of whether it applied or not.
Later in the ad, it states the car has a 5-speed, so which is it, 5 or 6 speeds.
The car certainly has the pro-touring look, but there is little in terms of describing the chassis and suspension upgrades beyond it has subframe connectors and Wilwood brakes. Although good parts, those alone are not a sufficient description.
The Buy it Now price is not out of the question. The car looks well made and good pro-touring cars sell in that price range. I am left asking more questions than are answered. Maybe that is what the dealer wants is for you to call.
Without a thorough inspection and a review of the receipts, it may or may not be worth it.

@Boss5Oh definitely a nice looking car that I'd drive, but i had to laugh at the bolt in subframe connectors.

I'm sure that I'm a part of the minority here, that being said I think that the Coyote swap sounds great in theory but for a few reasons just isn't for me. The power levels, having EFI and a heavily modified suspension would be nice but I've never liked the sound that the new 5.0 motors make in the newer mustangs and popping open the hood to see all of that plastic and other stuff just sitting there doesn't do anything at all for me. I know that classic mustangs with SBF's have been done a million different times and it's cool to be a little bit different or unique, but I'd personally rather go with a SBF of similar power levels, maybe an Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI as well as a heavily modified suspension instead. Just my thoughts of course.

I agree with you with just a little flip/flop.
In 2014 I was totally leaning toward building a 289 stroker or some other unique Ford pushrod V8. The 260 in my 65 was shot with zero salvageable or worthwhile parts. As was the three speed and 8 inch rear, not to mention the rest of the 300k mile suspension. During my researching on engine possibilities and typical costs I came to the conclusion that most everything pushrod had basically been done and I soon was looking for something new/different. Like you mentioned, regardless it would be EFI. Gen2 Coyote became my goal.
I do agree however, I too did not like the thought of trying to pretty up the engine with plastic. Nor did I think I would like it mixed with the 65 (no offense to anyone who is using the engine covers). And secondly, being a guy who owned/loved the lumpy idle and rumble of a heavily cammed 396 to 454 BB Chevy, I knew the Coyote would disappoint there. I tried to remedy both, the under hood visual as well as exhaust.
In the end I love everything I have done/and the way my 65 drives.. But you will always catch me looking in the direction of an approaching or passing cammed and menacing V8 with a thumbs up and smile on my face. 👍

When I bought my MTF M2 front end, Rich was puzzled why I didn't want the Coyote setup instead of the 351W. I told him I loved the old school iron ( Dart block 427 stroker) and lope of a hot cam and 550-600hp and great torque, and I didn't trust anything with 3 foot long timing chains. I guess I am old school.

One of my favorite body styles of all time. Looks like a nice build.

A favorite body style for me too. The interior looks amazingly stock giving all the other mods and engine. I am curious as to what the car sells for.
Very cool car and a bit more room inside than a mustang. I'm always torn between the earlier horizontal headlights and the later vertical style. Great cars either way.
Okay, with the confession that I am not shopping, what is fascination with installing sailing equipment into the early Mustangs ? I don't get it. First, one has to remove the problem, THEN you have to repair all of the damage done to cause the problem in the first place. Whats up with the 'BAT' people. Whats the Coyote fascination ? Educate me. LSG

Look back to post 12. Every time you comment on coyote swapped cars I picture an 80 year old man shaking his fist on his front lawn. Yet, you keep coming back....

Angry, okay, so went back and read #12. I will refer YOU to #14. ANYTHING that a Coyote can do, the early engines can do, for a whole lot less, and without damaging surgery needed to make it all fit. If you WANT 20+ mpg and 500 hp, you can have it. And for alot less money than a Coyote swap. You are falling for the hype and mistique. 'Its all smoke and mirrors', says the angry old man, as he shakes his fist ! :ROFLMAO: Interesting that ford chose that name, Coyote. Where I live, a coyote is considered a pest, and you can shoot them anytime.

HvsTool, you are mistaken, this IS a fun thread ! Its all a matter of perspective. LSG

LOL.

The cost difference was negligible in my case. A ford strokers long block costs more than the coyote, and after you add the injection goodies its more than the coyote+control pack. I wanted a T56 no matter what so tunnel surgery would have been needed. AC cost me $2k more than it would have with the sbf and was a lot more work to sort out. My towers were already gone from the PO so no extra cost there. Mostly it was just more work. Work that I mostly enjoy. I had to make a firewall and move the MC. Other than that, much of the same.

Have you driven a coyote power car? They are fun engines.

Angry, I LOVE the old man picture ! Well, I've driven Coyote powered trucks. I yawned. Also driven 545 stroker powered trucks. And 462" stroker FE, and Clevelands. I just don''t see ANY andvantage offered by a Coyote. I also don't like the fact that you have towind the piss out of them to get the power. Now, that said, alot of the customer 'builds' were a disappointment to me, personally. We always had several guys a week asking for 1. 'the biggest cam they make' or 2. a very lumpy / thumpy / choppy idle. We built what they asked for. When a customer asks us for what will work best for them, the results are quite different.

If your car's front was already altered, okay, whats there ? Have you added any bracing or reinforcement to address the issues that style suspension is known to cause ?

MSM, I like that you chose the windsor, but would love to know why you chose the front end that you did. Who is Rich ? I would have questioned your choice also, and tried very hard to talk you out of it. LSG

PS My hair is not as grey as the man pictured, but I am substantially heavier, and have a full beard. Would that add to the angry old man aura ?

I did a few things to add rigidity to the front end. SF connectors, torque boxes, 1.5" DOM from the firewall to the frame rail. Pics are in my build page. Link is in my signature.
To me, I look at things in a "cost vs benefit" type of way, where I'll think about how much something is going to cost me and if I think it'll be worth that amount. The 5.0 Coyote crate motor brand new is right around $10k and the T56 transmission is about $3,500 from what it shows on Google. For $13.5k, and before doing anything else at all to the car, that's already about $5k more than what I have into my drivetrain. And that's just the beginning, I have to imagine all of the other parts will add up. Things like removing the shock towers and getting different suspension, headers, motor mounts, steering and whatever else is needed will likely put that number up closer to the $20k range? Imo, I simply can't justify that amount of money when my 347 stroker motor has more power, sounds better imo and cost considerably less. Even if the costs of the two were more comparable, I'd honestly likely still pass on going the Coyote route because as mentioned above, I'm not a huge fan of the way the motor looks or sounds. I also don't really want to spend all that money changing up my car just for the motor when I don't really have to and when it likely won't be all that different from my current setup. If your shock towers are already gone, if you want a project and so forth then maybe it makes a little more sense to do but for me personally it doesn't. To each their own.

As the debate of Coyote vs SBF or BBF continues, why does it continue? Everyone is going to make the decision based on what is right for them. Pissing and moaning about someone else not doing what they have done has no added value in the long run. Are Coyote swaps more expensive, of course as I know first hand with mine. When it comes down to it, neither side is likely to change the minds of those on the other. We love this community for the comradery and exchange of ideas, can we just move on.
