Just took out the crank again to check on things before oiling the shells. I used plastiguage on two journals to check clearance which comes in at .003. I double checked everything made sure all was clean and never did rotate the crank. But the #4 bearing shell which sits in the block now has 4 or 5 small nicks what looks like cuts around the top end of the shell. Deep enough to catch a fingernail. I couldn't find any traces of dirt on either the crank or bearing. Could these be crush fractures and more importantly can i polish them out. All the other bearings were fine. Maybe this is a bad shell I don't remember these cuts being there before
