I have a 66 v8 coupe I'm replacing the alternator on. When I took the original alt. off a small 1/16" split washer fell out, that was between the spacer and the alternator housing. It was tight getting the alt. off and still tight fitting the new one on - so tight I'm not sure how i slip that washer in there. There doesn't appear to be anything to lever against. Can I skip the washer altogether or is there a trick for getting it in there.

Thanks

The washer is not original equipment. Skip it...

I have a 68 convert. When I took my alt. power steering pump and a/c off there were split washers all over the place. Any ideas why they were put there? Do I need to put them back? Does it line up the belts? I don't know.

It may very well be that someone used washers to line up the belts. I should think that flat washers would work better for this task though.

Do your belts line up without the washers? They should if all of the parts are correct.
