just got some news that my 69 mach M code,may have a 70 or newer 351W.need to know where to look for the date code on the block? would it have a stamped car vin # on the block somewhere?Is there a different block number between the 351C and 351W? if so do you know them.how can I tell the difference of the two blocks?I need to do some looking...

There should be a date code on the block close to the starter..As for which type of engine you have the cleveland has the timing cover cast into the front of the block where the windsor is a bolt on style..Thermostat housing is on the intake on the windsor and on the cast in piece on the cleveland..

Here's a pick of the casting # and date on my 289, should be in the same place on a 351W:
