Found a metal tag on the engine, I get the 390 and the 67 part, but can anyone decode the rest of it?

Thanks

8 is the change level.
7-C is March 7th
322 A is the engine/trans code

Thanks! Any idea how long between production and placement in car?

It varies but 3 months seems to ring a bell for me. More than that and it may not pass the sniff test as to it being original to the car.

You concours/thoroughbred guys feel free to correct.

That works, my Buck tag is dated F2 (June 2).

Thanks again.
I have a 67 390. IIRC correctly "322" is engine code. I'd have to find my decifering code book for exact wording.
My 390 was built end of March, verified by block casting date. car build date was May 10th.
This time space may vary slightly

Mustang sales had slowed by the '67 model year. The casting dates on the block, heads, manifolds, etc were August of 1964 on my September of 1964 assembled Mustang- barely a month separation.
