I have several Sonys at work and they all suck. The best camera for the money is the Fuji. Get the highest resolution capability you can afford, you can do all the optimization with graphics programs instead of having the camera take crummy pictures so they fit on a floppy.

The Sony handycams with the built in digital cams are even worse!
