Well, in preparation for lighting off my car sometime this week, I want to measure/adjust the advance curve on my car. I've got a Mallory Unilite distributor (no vacuum advance, 3 wire hookup). I understand that it is recommended to have 30 degrees of total advance. How do I measure this? I have a craftsman inductive timing light (without a dial on the back).

Thanks in advance for the info.

I run 16 initial with 36 total. Without a dial back light it might be hard, the damper may not have marks after 35 degrees. I kind of fudge it because i'm so close to 35 anyway. What total timing are trying to run?
I had 30 degrees of advance at first, i then adjusted my dizzy to anly give me 20 degrees. Didn't want 46
degrees total.

I believe Mallory sets up the Unilite with 24 deg of mech advance at the factory. You might want to start at 12-14 initial and see what happens. The Mallory web site has all the specs if you need to check.

Another place that you might want to go is http://www.centuryperformance.com

Awhile back I talked to these guys about my Mallory setup and they are very knowledgeable and helpful.
