My 65 original stainless trim has tabs (barbs).
You will have to drill small holes for the tabs.
They go through the carpet and into kick panel and then bend tab over.
Then use a contact cement or upholstery glue to attach edges.

There was a thin layer of fiberglass on backside of my panels as well. Car had Pony Interior and a/c as well.
I believe NPD has everything you will need as well.

Insulation does attach to backside.

For a driver, I will use a reflective heat/sound barrier.

A nice benefit from the kick panel carpet, it helps reduce noise.
Definitely noticed the change while it is removed.

For those doing concours, here’s a picture of staples on kick panels.
This is a San Jose built car.😎
