So I'm taking apart my 289 cylinder heads to get a good clean on them sense I have them off. I'm taking the valve spring off and there is a smaller spring in a larger one. I was wondering if this was factory style or if someone did it befor I had the car? Also if it would be beneficial to buy new springs and go to a single one? The current spring are perfect other than being a impossible to get off.

If anyone has suggestions on taking them off a little easier I would appreciate it! My current tool is just not cutting it and don't want to have to buy another one.
From what I’ve read, that is a damper spring used on HP289 Boss 302 and early 351W
