My driver's side taillight is dim and the turn signal on that side does not work. The passenger side works fine, so I do not suspect a bad blinker. I changed the bulb with no improvement. I cleaned the receptacle, no improvement. I can stick my tester probe in the housing and the backup light on that side will blink. What gives? I suspect a bad bulb receptacle, but am not sure. Any tips? It was working fine the other day, now it's on the fritz....

You most likely have a bad ground somewhere on that side.
