can you just remove the four bolts holding the drum on the assembly and bolt on the disc rotor or do you have to remove the whole thing including spindles and etc.. hope this is clear enough..

The 65/66 Mustangs use the same spindle for both drum and disk, you remove the drum and backing plate and install the caliper bracket, then the disk and finally the caliper. The caliper bracket mounts to the
same bolt holes as the drum backing plate.

I've read in some magazine that for strength you want to get spindles from 70 and later. The earlier spindles were a little in the wimpy side. You can pick up a Granada pretty cheap.
