I finally fixed my charging problem by replacing the underhood wiring harness. Took a close look at the old one, and found out that where some strange splices had been made previously, there were no longer really any wires there--just melted plastic. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
Anyway, I got all ambitious and since the Mustang is my only car now, I decided to try and install the cd player (really cheap one I should probably add) I had in my old dd into the Stang. Well, it's in (glovebox) and it works, but it doesn't work very well. The illumination on the cd player flickers constantly, sort of in time with the engine when it's running. If I turn on my lights it cuts off the power to the cd player and activates my turn signal lights on the dash, but not outside the car (does this have something to do with the flasher being the circuit breaker for the radio?). I also seem to lose power to my dash gauges (oil pressure in particular) if I try to run the lights and cd player together.
What I'm wondering is if this is due to my alternator not putting out enough power (just had it tested, I believe he said 12.something volts at idle and 14.something under load) to run everything at once, or if the problem lies in the wiring, and either way if there's something I can do about it? I'm just learning this wiring stuff, so bear with me if this is a silly question./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
