I’ve got a ‘66 mustang that was built in May. From what I’ve read, these post March 66’s should have a plug and play wiring harness for emergency flashers, but looking under the glove box I don’t see any harness. Just a silver cylinder with a blue and red wire and a white w/ red stripe. Do I need to buy the wiring harness to install an emergency flasher switch and where do I plug it in??

The hazard flasher harness plugs in between the steering column harness and the under dash harness and runs over to the switch location in the glovebox.

The headlight harness has a plug that you unplug and put the emergency harness into. It's like adding a rally pac- you just add it into the existing circuit. The plugs match up and you should see it, once you know what to look for.

Thanks guys, sounds like there is a chance the harness could be tucked back somewhere behind ashtray area. Will take a closer look for it in the morning.
Find the connection between the steering column harness and the under-dash harness. If there's just 2 plugs then you're missing the hazard harness. There should be a 4 plugs within about 6 inches of each other with a branch of wires coming out... the closest thing I can think of to how it looks is like a trailer harness connector when you install it in a vehicle's rear light harness...

Is this what you were talking about Bart? This harness goes through the firewall right by the steering column.

Nope/ Follow the wires coming out of the steering column until you find the 2 plugs. If you keep going and don't find another 2 plugs and a bunch of wires within 4-5 inches you're missing it.

I think I found it. Is this it??? And does it plug directly into the switch or do I need an additional wiring harness?

That's whats left of your switch.Follow the wires back and plug in your new switch there.

What do you mean when you say follow the wires back? Does the switch not plug in to that harness?
That's a picture of the insides of a broken switch. Its hared wired to the harness wires so you have replace the harness and the switch. Trace the wires back to where they connect so as to match that connector when you order a harness, and also a switch that mates to the new harness.

My mistake I thought you were looking for the flasher cube, mine was snapped off just like that, just remove what’s left of old, I used I believe a1” hole saw to go thru the cardboard glove box on top of glovebox so when it’s open you don’t see the harness,so the plug can pass thru it and plug into the new one then used small bolts nuts to mount it

Got the switched hooked up. Plugged right in! I also noticed that every time the hazard lights flashed I’d hear a thumping sound coming through the radio speaker. Turned the volume down and it went away. Anybody have any ideas on why that’s happening?

First guess would be a bad radio ground. Second would be the antenna lead runs very close to the flasher.
