I am in the process of detailing a '65 289. I have already painted the intake and block Duplicolor gloss black, and was wondering if the cast aluminum timing cover and cast aluminum water pump should be painted as well. Also wondering if the pulley, dampener, and bracket should be the sameor if they should be low gloss black. After I finish this I can retrive the oil pump driveshaft that dropped down in the oil pan when I put the distributor back in. So much for taking apart a perfectly good running engine.

The timing cover and water pump were painted with the rest of the long block as an assembly, therefore it should be the same black as the block, heads, etc. The bolts should also be painted. The pulleys and accessory brackets should be a semi-gloss black with natural attachment bolts and washers.
