Well, after searching for an early Windsor block, I have had no luck. Since this car is going to be my daily driver.... Do you think it would be more feasable to build up a 302? I can find those easily here. I want somthing with around 300-350 RWHP. This is going to be my daily driver, so am I nuts? I considered going with the 393W, but after adding up all the parts and machine work it is going to cost a hell of alot. So help me decide..... Windsor.... or 302? And what kind of things can I do to a 302 to get that much HP? Im sure a set of alluminum heads are in order, along with a cam with a decent grind....... anything else? I want to do this right, but at the same time, I don't have a lot of money to spend....

You could build a stroker motor. The link below is a pretty interesting article I found the other day on a 331 cubic inch stoker motor that will put out around 400 hp.

I agree about the 331, although it will be almost as much money. you could always build one with a supercharger and not have to go as wild with a stroker kit.

It is going to be very hard to get a 302 to that much hp while still maintaining the streetability, in my opinion. That said, it leaves you with the option of a 351 or a small block stroker. If it is really hard to to find 351 then by all means, go with a stroker. The stroke will allow you to achieve more horsepower without going to extremes, and also will provide more torque, which will also help the steetability of the car. I am just about finished with my 331 stroker motor, which will be going into my 66 coupe with C4 and 8in, 3.55 rear. I expect that the motor will produce about 300hp at the tires. If that isn't enough for you, you can always go with a 347 stroker, but there are still many that are weary of the reliability of those. In a few weeks or so, I will also be able to provide some actual numbers, if you are interested.

I will tell you if using an auto you will need around 400+HP out of a 302 to make 300-350RWHP. For the money you can just build up a normal 351W. Get the edelbrock package and you have 400HP. Go a little more extreme and you can make a fair ammount more... Airgap+nice hydrolic roller cam+a set of AFR/Trick Flow Heads = you having some GOOD HP. With that you could use a 80s 351W just fine. I would say an easy 450HP out of that...

How far away are you willing to look for an early 351W block? By early I assume you mean pre-1974? I can check up here in the South Bend area for you. No guarantees but I may generate a lead. I know someone with a 69 351W in their garage that they actually got for free! But it's mine and I'm not parting with it /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
