Fate of the VMFElite FAQ

Does anyone still use the VMF Elite FAQ? It was an ambitious project that started off great. Then we lost our host and a months worth of data. Now my free host wants to charge me to keep the database on-line. There were discussions before about adding a login to protect entries.

If there is still interest in the project I will move it to my own server at my expense and add functionality. If not we can shut it dow and have Jay remove the link.

What do you all want to do??

I vote to keep it. I would like to submit info about 5.0L swaps.

I use it from time to time for reference. Would be nice if it was expanded and was on a faster server. You asked/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I removed the link recently because it seemed as though no one had done a thing to it in months. Since the last 'crash' it turned into a ghost town. I know all my FAQs were wiped out in the transition and I just never had the motivation to do 'em all over again.

I would wait a bit while this new forum gets settled in. Then when everyone is in their new home we can bring it back again, hopefully with a lot more support. There is another FAQ that is managed by a single VMFer that has been a good attempt to keep the project alive.

I think we should wait. Thanks for offering to resurrect it, it was fantastic for the first couple months... just want to make sure that when it does return it will be met with that old spirit.

Jay,

Have you visited http://www.fordmuscle.com . The print preview option simplifies reading and printing. It's something to consider. Also, have reached a decision on your Flaming River steering box? ;)

how about we ask Bob to host it here on vintage-mustang.com? Before, we never could get ahold of him to ask if he would put it on. Seems like he's willing to cater to us so why now ask?

They say they never forget.

That steering box is still in there. I have changed parts all around it and want to give it one last shot before moving on to the TCP rack and pinion. Besides the TCP backorder list is a couple months and I've gotta be able to move this car by the end of the month ... bye bye garage space. Actually looking for some small warehouse space for the rest of the winter.

I am familiar with the print feature you describe. Some of the other boards such as Stangnet and so forth are running that type of software (lot more to those, but Bob likes wwwThreads so I guess I do to /forums/images/icons/wink.gif)

It was more than a loss of interest that killed the FAQ.

When the FAQ was resurrected after its crash, it did not work. I, and others, tried several times to add/edit material and could not get the server to take it.

That's what killed interest even more than the long delay between crash and resurrection.

I said it before, I say it again, a complicated database like Lotus Notes (which is what the original FAQ was implemented with) requires a higher degree of administration than a simple HTML website. You can't just set it up and hope it will continue to work.

Bob may be willing to host it, but I doubt that he will want to assume maintenance/administration duties.

That was the motivation behind my FAQ, which Jay has kindly added to the VMF Elite menu. (BTW, Papacito, if you want to add stuff to it, please do---send material to [email protected] and I'll post it there.)

I have to agree with the difficulty part. Jerry, In regards to the '65/'66 I6 to V8 swap complete list, could you link to http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/3573/Special/6to8.htm?

This was the complete list I did for the old VMF FAQ.

Thanks,

May the FAQ live on!

Actually, the 6 to 8 topic is already linked to a list you posted on the old VMF; I think it was a draft you posted to get feedback before posting to the FAQ.

Anyway, water over the dam, yes, I will link to your website. This weekend.

And I'm think you've done a great job centralizing all the info at your site.

(wow, that preliminary list was a while back, wasn't it?)
