I am finally back to working on the old girl. (65 fastback)

When I last replaced the alternator, the gauges did not read properly.

The fuel gauge registers too low and the alternator pegs to the charging side. And the temperature gauge may or may not register properly.

Could these problems be because I do not have the correct alternator? And if so, what is a good source for a new one that is correct for a 65?

Or maybe the better way to ask the question is this one from NPD a suitable replacement?

How is your voltage regulator? It can cause funky things like this. If you need to replace there is an electronic one available to keep looking stock you can swap covers. Hope this helps. Dead nuts on is a good source for having an original one rebuilt if you go that way.

i was chasing a high temp gauge reading for a long time. stuck a stat in the rad neck it was reading 190 but gauge was always high
after many cooling tests eventually I chalked it off to a bad gauge.
one day for no other reason other than to have a new one I replaced the VR and the gauge came back to normal

I did replace it during the last rebuild, so believe it is working properly, but may have to try another one.
