Discussion Starter #1
I have a 66 fb I am putting a 4spd top loader in. The motor is 302 w/ D4A cast, 6 bolt bellhousing. The flywheel doesn't match up to the starter. Do the 70's 302 have a larger flywheel or maybe it is a truck block and needs a larger flywheel. Any ideas on what I should be looking for as far as the correct flywheel. My ref says 68-76 is all the same, but obviously not. Just another one of those hurdles I have come across in building a car from scratch. art

Starters were different between automatics and manuals. Perhaps you have an automatic starter.

When you say the starter doesn't match up can you be more specific about what is wrong.

All the manual starters are the same. The 6 bolt blocks are the same. The difference is there are 11 inch clutches which will use a 164 tooth flywheel as well as the big bellhousing and then the 10 inch clutch which will use a 157 or 160 tooth flywheel with the small bellhousing. My guess is you have the larger bell housing and a smaller flywheel.
